Iron Man

Trying another design for the case, as opposed to the Han Solo one. This one is focusing on Iron Man, this post will show another cutting out method, and altering one colour range of an overall image.

Original Image:

First I need to cut Mr Iron Man out of this image so I have only him to work with.

To cut this out I could use the tools show in my other post where I cut out Han solo, but in this image there are places where the background (smoke/black) match too closely with the colours of the body, so using the Magic Wand Tool or the Quick Selection Tool can result in them areas in the body getting selected, also with it being smoke it will be a rough edge where it tries to select round the bits of smoke near the body.

I used the Polygonal Lasso Tool:
With this you just click release then move and repeat along the edge you wish to select, this can take a while compared to the other tool.

I now want to turn the red areas of the Iron Man suit blue, to do this I click the Hue/Saturation button in adjustments

This brings up the properties for Hue and Saturation for a new layer, and will affect all bellow it.
Here I drag the sliders until the areas on the suit are the colour I want, in this case blue.

The read areas of the suit are now a nice blue, the rest of the image as changed but that doesn't matter.

Next I click the Masks button on the top of the properties window next to the Hue/Saturation icon.

Now click on Color Range...
This will roughly revert the image, though there will be a tinge of the hue/saturation adjustments you did. This is because no colour range has been selected, with the new Color Range window open click the image on the colour you want to turn to the hue/saturation you just did.

There are 2 sliders, the first alters how strong the effect you did comes through, so in my case, how blue it goes; if you slide the top slider to 0 and the image will be 100% normal. The second slider is range from where you colour select, so if I colour select from his right hand, and have the range on low I can colour just his hand blue.

The range can be used for shadows/lighting, gradients between colours on only one section through an image. I just want the red parts blue though, so I have Localized Color Clusters unticked. I don't have the slider on 200 as the gold areas of the suit being to be affected. 145 is a good point where the blue is strong and the gold hasn't be changed much.

To make this better and so the gold areas are not changed, I could select all of the blue sections and create a mask layer of just them sections so the hue/saturation mask doesn't go over the gold areas.
